Open Shoot

I had a great opportunity this weekend to take photos!  I went to the Brewer game last night, and I figured that would be the perfect chance to practice my action shots/pictures of people.  This entire shoot felt creepy, but how am I supposed to get good pictures of "the essence of the baseball fan" with them knowing about it??  So I just looked for people that were really into the game and wouldn't notice me taking shots.  I got some good ones!!

Shooting Exercise #10 - Loaded Landscapes

I was pretty perplexed with this week's shooting assignment, so I decided to do some research about Waukesha's history.  I stumbled upon a wonderful (in an awful way) murder that happened mere blocks away from our campus in 1917.  Dr. David Roberts (a successful veterinarian) had an affair with a school teacher named Grace Lusk.  Dr. Roberts' wife found out about the affair and went to talk with the teacher.  The two women got in a heated argument which ended up with Lusk shooting and killing Mrs. Roberts.  Another thing that I found interesting, was that once Lusk was found guilty of the murder, she seemed okay with it, walked over to the prosecutor, only to scream and grab him by the throat.  Who knew Waukesha had such scandalous history!!
Cutler Park - where Mrs. Roberts walked through on her way to 416 West Park Ave to meet her demise.

Also in Cutler Park.  There was no record of this murder anywhere around the neighborhood.

Unfortunately, all of the addresses in the article I read are no longer in existence.  This house is about where the murder had taken place on Park Ave.

A parking garage on Wisconsin Ave. where the Roberts' home was once located.

A former business that would have looked like Dr. Roberts' Veterinary practice on Grand Ave.

Shooting Exercise #9 - Performance

For this exercise, I had to put myself out there a bit.  I walked around downtown Waukesha, and I asked people if I could take pictures of their shoes.  Clearly a strange request, but I think it turned out well.  :)

Shooting Exercise #8 - Narrative

I decided to use an apple couple in my narrative this week.  But be warned, one image is pretty graphic... ;)

Shooting Exercise #7 - Abstraction

My subject matter this week is wood and wood grain.  Guess where I went to take my photos...you guessed it, the Antique Mall! :)

Shooting Exercise #6 - Open Shoot

I took pictures of kitchen utensils/stuff this week in a department store.  It's usually my favorite place (with dishes and such) in these kinds of stores, and I came up with some pretty dynamic photos I think.  Enjoy!

Shooting Exercise #4 - Black and White Visions

I took these photos at the Neville Public Museum and in some shops in downtown Green Bay.  I payed really close attention to the texture of my subjects, as well as contrast.  One question, what is your opinion on asking parents to take a picture of their really cute kid? I wanted to do that this weekend, but I decided it was maybe creepy.  Let me know what you think. :)

Shooting Exercise #3 - Considering Color

Here are my photos for this week's exercise.  I found a huge variety of colors at the Antique Mall in Waukesha.

This hat has a happy and cheerful tone to it because of the bright yellow color.
This reds in this chair give a very luxurious feel especially mixed with the gold.

The purple in this image is kind of ironic because it is very far from luxurious or royal.
The bright blue hue gives a cool, calm, and collected vibe.

The brass has it's own antique feeling to it.

Shooting Exercise #2 - Point of View

First off, I had some fun with this week's assignment.  My object that I chose is actually something that I made on Thursday night.  I glued pages of a book to this mini paper mache mannequin I had in my closet.  I decorated it, as you can see, and tried my hardest to make it look different in each image.  Hope you like my images! :)
